LAKE LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Many residents in Lake Los Angeles are holding their breath Wednesday in anticipation of a judge’s ruling that will send Christopher Hubbart, AKA the Pillowcase Rapist , back to a mental hospital and out of their neighborhood.

A judge heard testimony Wednesday that said Hubbart violated terms of his release — on at least two occasions, detractors said, he let the battery in his ankle monitoring bracelet run dangerously low.

KCAL9’s Laurie Perez spoke to neighbors who hope the judge will show no leniency.

Hubbart’s home was empty Wednesday — and that’s how many neighbors want it to remain.

On most days — since Hubbart’s release last summer — there are usually protesters outside the home.

But on Wednesday, Perez said the protest moved to Santa Clarita County and the courthouse where Hubbart’s fate will be determined.

LA County prosecutors asked for the hearing because of the low battery complaint.

Residents said Hubbart’s inability to follow that simple part of his agreement adds to their worst fears — that he will re-offend.

Hubbart blamed the low battery on forgetfulness and inattention for his mistakes.

The judge has 90 days to make a ruling.

Residents Perez talked to said they hoped Hubbart’s forgetfulness will cost him his freedom.
